The ‘monstrosity’ of the police
Is police brutality against minorities, juveniles or the poor a serious problem? How can the extent of police brutality be measured? What are the causes of police brutality? Is racism a factor in police brutality? However, what disturbs me a lot is that we have not managed to curb this malignant ‘disease’ of police brutality amongst our law enforcers. The main and disturbing questions Kenyans have always been asking themselves is why do police conduct themselves in such demeaning acts? Or is it because of the inhumanity training that they usually undergo? In most instances, we usually consider the police as our guardians in matters of security and upholding the sanctity of the rule of law and always ensuring the inviolability of the rule of law. Over time, citizens of various countries have protested over various important issues that the government has subjected them to the issue of police brutality and extra-judicial killings being at the topmost.
Therefore, Police brutality can be described as the use of excessive or unnecessary force by law enforcement officials, which results in harm or injury to civilians.
